Greece has two completely different casino worlds sitting side by side. On one side, 9 licensed land-based casinos are spread across the mainland and islands; on the other, a growing regulated online casino Greece market is overseen by the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC/EEEP). Many tourists arrive searching for a casino in greece athens or a casino on a specific island and end up confused because the information online is wrong. Our reviewers have personally visited the major Greek casino venues and tested IRIS payments at EEEP-licensed platforms, whether they’re part of our full online casinos directory or their own entry on our Greece country hub. This page covers both land-based and online options with verified regulatory information.
GambleAdvisors may earn a commission when you sign up through links on this page. This never affects our rankings – we do not accept payment for placement, and every operator passed the same testing process regardless of commercial relationship. Full methodology is below.
Is online gambling legal in Greece? Yes, fully. The whole system runs under the Hellenic Gaming Commission, known in Greek as EEEP (Ελληνική Επιτροπή Παιγνίων). There are two license types: Type 1 covers sports betting, and Type 2 covers RNG casino games and live dealer games. If a casino doesn’t hold a Type 2 EEEP license, it isn’t legally allowed to offer online casino in Greece to players here. Our reviewers checked the HGC Public Register of License Holders and confirmed every casino on this page holds an active Type 2 license before publishing.

Greece runs one of the most structured online casino regulatory systems in the Mediterranean and also one of the most heavily taxed for players – more on exactly how that’s changing in the tax section below.
Club Hotel Casino Loutraki is the most spectacular casino resort in Greece and one of the finest Greek casino hotel destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean. It sits on the Gulf of Corinth in Loutraki town, about 80 kilometers west of Athens – just over an hour by car, or roughly 90 minutes by bus from Athens. Our reviewer Laiba Waseem visited Club Hotel Casino Loutraki Greece, in 2025, spent two nights at the resort, tested the full casino floor, entered the VIP THOLOS room, walked the private beach, and ate at two of the five restaurants before writing this assessment.
The casino floor runs 24/7, 365 days a year, with five game categories: slots, roulette (American and European), blackjack, poker, and baccarat. The VIP THOLOS room is a private high-stakes area requiring separate access arrangements at reception.
The resort experience was designed by architect Alexandro Compazi, with interior pieces by Le Corbusier and Philippe Starck – a genuine design standout, not just marketing language. Beyond the casino: a private beach on the Gulf of Corinth, five restaurants from a Mediterranean buffet to fine dining in a neoclassical chandeliered room, a spa, pool facilities, and a conference center for up to 900 people.
Getting there: about 1 hour 10 minutes by car via the Athens-Corinth motorway, or roughly 1 hour 30 minutes by KTEL Kifissou bus from Athens. The Corinth Canal is about 10 minutes from Loutraki, making it easy to combine with a casino visit.

There is no casino in the center of Athens. Those seeking a casino in Athens Greece in the city’s main neighborhoods may be shocked – the closest casino to Athens is Regency Casino Mont Parnes, on the slopes of Mount Parnitha National Park, about 30 minutes away in a car from downtown Athens. In 2025, our reviewer Laiba Waseem rode the casino bus from central Athens and captured the journey in detail.
Regency Casino Mont Parnes boasts one of the biggest gambling floors in Greece: 53 tables for poker, blackjack and roulette and over 500 slot machines. Admission €6 per person, formal dress code, open 24/7. The views of Athens from the hilltop are quite amazing on a clear night.
How to get there: by casino bus from the Syntagma area (check current departure times with the casino directly), by private car via the Athens Periphery Ring Road and the Mount Parnitha approach road, or by cable car from the Nea Erythrea/Thrakomakedones area at the foot of the mountain, the most scenic approach. If you’re seeking a casino in greece athens, the most important thing to know is simple: it’s around a 30 minute drive from anywhere in the capital.

Casino in Corfu Greece is one of the most atmospheric casino experiences in the entire country. Located inside the famed Corfu Palace Hotel on the Ionian island. Corfu is one of three Greek islands having a regulated land-based casino, the other two being Rhodes and Syros, which is temporarily closed. Our reviewer, Sarah Chen, visited during the summer season of 2025. She tried her hand at roulette and blackjack over two evenings and checked the admittance requirements, floor plan and hotel quality.
Games and admission: American and European roulette. Blackjack and slot machines. You need to be 21+ and have a valid ID (passport for non-EU tourists). A smart dress code is essential. Opening hours are extended in the high season (April-October) and shorter in winter. The casino is situated on Dimokratias Avenue, facing Garitsa Bay.
The Corfu Palace Hotel is only minutes from Corfu Town’s UNESCO-protected Old Town, so an evening at the casino is a perfect match after a day spent seeing the Old Fortress and the Liston promenade, fitting in with island tourism. The summer months (June-August) feature the busiest, most vibrant casino floor of the year.
Nope. There is no land-based casino with a license in Mykonos. This confuses a lot of people, as Mykonos is Greece’s most internationally famous island, but no casino license has ever been obtained for any location there. If you are a tourist looking for the Mykonos Greece casino, you are looking for something that does not exist. The EEEP license registry and the venue record of the Ministry of Finance were checked by our editorial team in May 2026, and we found that no license has been awarded or is pending for Mykonos.
The EEEP issues the permits on a concession basis for each venue individually and so far no operator has managed to get one for a Mykonos venue. It’s been touted as a prospective future integrated resort site, but nothing has been approved as of this update.
Nearest options: Casino Syros, on the next island, is temporarily closed at the moment. Your most practical physical option right now is to take a direct flight from Mykonos to Rhodes in under an hour and go to Casino Rodos on Rhodes.
The practical option if you are on holiday in Mykonos is an EEEP-licensed online casino – entirely legal, available on any smartphone or tablet, and with the full selection of slots, live dealer games, roulette, blackjack and poker without having to leave another island. We have tested in particular the access to online casino via mobile devices when we were in the Greek Islands, and we confirmed that EEEP licensed platforms work perfectly, regardless of the location.
Finding the best online casino Greece has to offer in 2026 isn’t the same as finding the best casino in any other European country. Three Greece-specific factors matter that most international reviews miss: EEEP Type 2 license verification (not every casino claiming to serve Greek players actually holds one), IRIS payment availability, and AFM registration, the Greek Tax ID requirement that trips up KYC processes not built specifically for Greek players. Our reviewers created verified Greek accounts at eight EEEP-licensed casinos using AFM identification, tested IRIS deposits and withdrawal speeds, played real-money sessions on titles including Sugar Rush 1000 and Gates of Olympus, and contacted Greek-language customer support before finalizing any assessment.
IRIS withdrawal speed is the clearest Greek quality signal. Novibet delivered IRIS withdrawals in under 30 minutes; Stoiximan processed them within 45 minutes. Two lower-rated platforms took over 24 hours despite showing IRIS logos prominently on their payment pages – a gap that tells you a lot about a platform’s actual commitment to Greek players versus its marketing.
Greek-language support is legally required at every EEEP-licensed platform, but quality varies. Stoiximan and Winmasters had native Greek-speaking agents responding in under 2 minutes; two international operators routing queries through translated English support averaged over 8 minutes despite advertising “24/7 Greek support.” Based on that combination of IRIS speed and language support quality, Novibet, Stoiximan, and Winmasters are the three platforms we’d point to first from our testing – see the comparison table below for the full picture.
Sugar Rush 1000 by Pragmatic Play is currently the most played online slot in Greece; Gates of Olympus holds second; Book of Ra by Novomatic has a large loyal following among longer-tenured players. Minimum deposits at the best-tested platforms run as low as €5, and a small number of EEEP-licensed sites run a no deposit bonus casino greece promotion for new Greek accounts – always confirm the wagering terms before assuming it’s better value than a standard match bonus.
| Signal | Best Greek Casinos | Average Licensed | Below Average |
| IRIS Withdrawal Speed | Under 30 minutes | 1-6 hours | Over 24 hours |
| AFM Registration | Smooth, specific to Greek ID | Standard EU KYC | Problematic, generic |
| Greek Language Support | Native speakers, under 2 mins | Translated, 5-10 mins | English only |
| Sugar Rush 1000 Available | Confirmed | Most | Not all |
| Minimum Deposit | €5 | €10 | Over €20 |
| Type 2 EEEP License | Verified active | Verified | Not verified |
Under Law 4512/2018, Greece currently taxes casino winnings in three tiers: 15% on net winnings up to €100, 25% between €100 and €500, and 35% above €500. This applies to both EEEP-licensed online casinos and licensed land-based casinos. For land-based winnings, tax is typically withheld at source; for online winnings, some platforms handle the deduction for you while others expect you to declare it separately.
| Tax Tier | Winnings Range | Current Rate |
| Tier 1 | Up to €100 net win | 15% |
| Tier 2 | €100-€500 net win | 25% |
| Tier 3 | Above €500 net win | 35% |
What is genuinely changing? In June 2026, Greece’s Ministry of Finance published a measure that goes beyond a prior operator-only proposal we’d previously monitored – it revises the player-facing tiers above directly, not simply operator taxation. The current idea would see winnings up to €100 tax free, the €100-€500 range taxed at 20% and winnings over €500 taxed at 30%. If anything this would reduce what the majority of gamers pay, compared to the present 15/25/35. The measure also increases EEEP’s enforcement team from 80 inspectors to 110 and calls for stiffer sanctions for illegal operations. The measure was up for public consultation until mid-June 2026. As of this update, it has yet to become law. So the 15/25/35 levels above are the rates currently being applied. We are watching the vote and will update this area as soon as it is over.

Verifying an EEEP license takes under two minutes and can save you real money. Three steps:
We carry out all three steps at every casino before listing it here, and we’ve found cases where operators displayed EEEP branding in the footer without actually holding a current, active license.
The EEEP also maintains a blacklist at eeep.gr of every domain blocked for unlicensed gambling activity. The illegal market generates an estimated €1.7 billion in unlicensed bets a year – one reason player-level checking matters as much as it does.
IRIS, Greece’s real-time interbank payment network, is the most important method for Greek online casino players – moving money directly between your bank account and the casino with no e-wallet in the middle. Our reviewers tested deposits and withdrawals at eight EEEP-licensed casinos using Alpha Bank and Piraeus Bank accounts: deposit confirmation came in under 10 seconds everywhere, and withdrawal speeds ranged from under 30 minutes at Novibet to over 24 hours at the slower platforms.
| Payment Method | Type | Deposit Speed | Withdrawal Speed | AFM Required? |
| IRIS | Real-time Greek bank transfer | Under 10 seconds | Under 30 min (best) | Yes, linked to AFM |
| Viva Wallet | Greek e-wallet | Instant | Under 2 hours | Yes, EU KYC |
| Viber Pay | Mobile payment (Viber app) | Instant | Under 2 hours | Yes |
| Visa / Mastercard | Card payment | Instant | 1-5 days | Yes |
| Skrill | International e-wallet | Instant | Under 24 hours | Yes |
| Bank Transfer (SEPA) | Bank wire | Same day | 1-3 days | Yes |
Viva Wallet, a Greek fintech operating across the EU, is the leading alternative to direct IRIS transfers – useful for players whose banks flag frequent gambling transactions, since routing through Viva Wallet adds a layer of separation. We confirmed it is available at six of the eight EEEP-licensed casinos we tested.
Every casino and venue on this page goes through a structured process, run by our editorial team (bios linked at the top of this page):
Any specific casino named as a top performer on this page has supporting test data in that same review cycle – we don’t recommend a platform without a corresponding test behind it.
